West Coast campgrounds

I have been planning a trip up most of the length of the west coast form Phoniex ending in Spokane Washington in early July. Must admit I have no knowledge of any of the campgrouds in spite of having lived in Oakland in the early 70's. I woudl like to spend a few days within site of the Ocean. ( The result of living in Phoenix for more than 20 yers I guess.

Any favorites?

Winchester Bay near Reedsport Oregon is about as close to the ocean as you can get. Fort Stevens State Park near Astoria is also very close to the ocean. I am sure you can find a lot more on the computer. Those are just a couple we have stayed at.

Caspar Beach at Mendocino, CA. was one of our favorites on a trip last year.

Walk across the not heavily traveled road and you are on the beach.

We have some photos in our May 2011 Album.

If you plan to stay in CA State Parks or Nat'l Park campgrounds in CA you really need to make reservation now. Do you plan to take Highway 1 and 101 along the coast or spend some time in the Valley & Sierras too?

Along 1 & 101 through the central coast would be worth looking at El Capitan in Santa Barabara area, Pismo Coast Village in Pismo/SLO Area, San Simeon near Hearst Castle, Julia Pfeiffer SP in Big Sur and New Brighton or Seacliff Beach in Santa Cruz Area. Thought I would give you 250 miles worth of options depending on when and where you will be.

Coming up the Valley...Sequoia Ranch in three rivers is nice and just outside the Sequoia NP south gate. Yosemite reservation for July open Feb 15...they will sell out in 15 minutes so you need to be on it.

Hope this helps.

Casper is Nice in Medocino/Fort Brag area (Norther CA)...but right there so is Jug Handle State Beach and MacKerricher.

As you can probably tell, we prefer the State Parks vs private RV Parks.

We are going to go to the Mendocino/Fort Bragg area for my daughter's spring break in April.

We were either going to go to Caspar Beach or Hidden Pines Campground, does anyone have any experience with Hidden Pines? We are looking at cost factor and Caspar Beach is a little out of budget, but if it is a better location, we will consider it over Hidden Pines.

Haven't been there but we wanted to be on the beach.

It was just a 2 nite stay as we were moving up the coast.
