Yellowstone East Entrance Campground recommendation

While planning for our big Yelllowstone trip this fall I have been diligently searching campgrounds outside of Yellowstone National Park. I am thinking we will stay on the East side and possibly the North side.

I'm finding most of the campgrounds look like parking lots. Are there any mature campgrounds with trees and privacy between RV pads?

What are you looking for in the way of hookups?
Have you searched out the National Forest sites?
Shoshone National Forest - Passes & Permits

Close to Yellowstone. Dog friendly. Some trees. That's about it.

A reminder that the East entrance is a severe climb to the main part of the park.


We stayed in Madison Campground. Not a parking lot. But limited hookups. If you need those another campground will have to suffice.

Most of the campgrounds were not laid out for large RV's. I think most of the other Xanterra campgrounds are parking lots. NPS not. ( there is a mix of both in the park)

You ought to look at West Yellowstone it is the closest entrance to the park. Check out Grizzly RV Resort.

but it is truly truly spectacular. Coming in from the North or West you kind of ooze into Yellowstone. Its high but it does not strike you as high

Again what amenities do you require?

Madison does have trees.

We are coming from the East and this is our first trip. We are planning on visiting Mt. Rushmore on the way in or the way out.

We have decided to rent a car when we get there. We would love to stay in the park but expect our visit to take place in mid to end of September and I think my options are limited at that time of year.

The DH wants to fish. The DW wants to hike and sit quietly.

Min requirements would be water and power. I absolutely want to avoid the parking lot experience.

its a tradeoff. Madison does not have what you require for utilities. It has world class fishing. It is open till Mid October.

We visited some 10 National Parks this year and found that the more you require the less serenity there was and more parking lot atmosphere.
Fishing Bridge RV park is parking lot like and closes Sept 18.

It will start snowing late Sept in Yellowstone.
You have quite the mobile house. It would fit in some Madison sites.
