75lb drawer slides

Jayco manages to advertise that the drawers it uses have slide mechanisms rated at 75lb. This might lead one to believe that you can put significant weight in the drawers.

Do not believe that. Especially if the drawers are in the rear of a longer trailer.

The mechanism is indeed capable of that much weight, BUT, the way the slides are mounted and the bottoms of the drawers are NOT capable of supporting any kind of weight. I had the bottoms break out of three drawers last trip, due to some pretty good 'whoops' bumps. One drawer was my 'fault'. I had about 30lb of stuff in there. The other two each had less than 15lb. One was pots and pans. The other had some tools in it.

In each case the bottoms of the drawers pulled out. They are simple masonite with dovetails on each side, but, at the rear it is held with staples, which was where the failure was.

One drawer the supports at the rear also failed. If you have any weight in a drawer it would behoove you to pull the drawer out and see how it is supported at the rear.

I have since reinforced a few of mine and added to the rear mount with some 2x4's.
