UGH!

I dunno if the newer and larger 5ers are built similar to our little trailer..... but I now know all too well how that underlay/tarp on the bottom of the TT will hold in moisture. Seeing that our insulation was UNDER the floor framing, trapped between it and that underlay and the steel frame.... you'll never get ALL of the insulation out.

I know I'm now wishing I had made sure I had insurance coverage for water damage.

Yuck!!! I thought that scene from RV was fake. I’ll bank on his trip being ruined!

Maybe someone will get a "great deal" on an almost new fifth wheel that has a strong Lysol pine scent.
Things like this are why I'd be very hesitant buying used.

Our Jayfeather actually has a warning sticker next to the flush inlet, reminding you that "unsanitary incidents may occur" if you forget to open the dump valve.

I imagine the company attorneys may have had a hand in that...

Back Tank Flush

I use a quick coupler and a short hose on my black tank flush so that doesn’t happen

That's all we need. The manufacturers can barely put 2x2's and staples together properly. I wouldn't trust them to have anything to do with electronic controls.

I'm in the camp that only flushes while the dump valve is open. I usually only flush at a full hook up site so it just runs for a while.

As a seasonal guy, my city water hose is connected from May-October... so no chance of screwing up connections. My city and black connections are right next to each other also.

I want mine to be a simple and uncomplicated as possible. Less to worry about if I don't have the expertise to fix it.

Wonder if the guy was new to RV'ing?

Hopefully that didn't happen in California. Because in addition to having a RV full of crap, you'd be getting a big fine from the local code compliance officer.

DW was helping me last trip and I gave her the water hookup job. When I went over to inspect her work the water was in the rinse connection. Could have been a disaster.

I leave my pressure regulator connected in the city water inlet to "remind" me.

We rarely camp with full hookups, so when we do I take advantage and will flush my black tank 2-3 times. The very first time I did this I made the mistake of walking away and getting side tracked on another task. Fortunately, I did not have a black tank flush on mine, so instead I use a piece of PVC pipe that I put down the toilet to hold the valve open which then keeps the water running. So the water that is flushing down is running from the water tank, through the toilet just as if I were flushing it. When the black tank filled up, the fresh water flowing through the toilet then overflowed onto the floor. So, it was relatively clean water, but water nonetheless. I had about an inch of water in the bathroom and near the back bunk (camper was not completely level), when it reached the middle of the camper it started flowing into the furnace ducts under the camper.....Uggh....I felt like a complete idiot (still do). I guess you can say I cleaned my own airducts! I will NEVER walk away from an open toilet again.

Just got a 2018 25bh this summer, first trip out I thought to myself why are these 2 hose connections right next to each other (black flush and city water). My teenage daughter had some poop emoji stickers (don't ask), so I put one of those right above the black tank flush input. I never want to make this mistake.

Ours are 4" apart, fresh on top, flush on the bottom. I got a snap on cover for the flush and stenciled 'NOT FOR FRESH' on it and also applied a sticker with "Open black dump valve' There is no way I want to have such an accident!!

Yup, Raining Brown

Did the same once on mine, luckily I keep my black tank flushed clean everytime I leave. As I was doing my outside hook-ups, head wife scream as water was coming up toilet. I quickly shut valve off. No stinky smell, just water out the vent.

Also, inlets, one over the other.

A thought for you. I had a friend that had issue with toilet tank letting water into RV. I have an O-zonator that is used by hotels to make a smoking room into a "non-smoking room". I lent it to him to get rid of any mold and smell in the rv. It worked very well. The o-zonator worked very well for both of us. It utilizes the same technology of Oxygen o3 that can be seen in other products like the cpap "SO-Clean". I had used the machine at my wife's house to get rid of musty odors and mold. The unit I have was purchased off the internet for $400.00, but maybe a rental place might rent such a machine. Also, no person or animal can be in the unit while it is running.

Our black flush connection is only a foot above the city connect. Although the city is clearly labeled, this thread got me thinking about the “what if”... So I used DW’s label maker to mark the black flush cap (do you like the skull and crossbones?) Crude, but so is a connection to the wrong port!

I've heard some say that a check valve in the black tank flush is not necessary cuz the water fill is above the tank. This is a good example of why check valves are necessary. Accidents do happen.
