CB Radio Question

I have found that, outside heavily populated areas full of misbehaving children, the "bucketmouthing" is kept to a minimum.


Take a look in the store at any truck stop, at the amount of CB technology on sale... truckers and other professional drivers do still use CB, and are usually quite polite and helpful... so, incidentally, do a lot of law enforcement agencies.

As with most things, the majority are just ordinary everyday people with a job to do, and there a few who will spoil it for the rest, if you let them.

I try to keep in mind an old saying from the days when the 'Net was flat... "Don't feed the trolls". What they really, really want is to know that they've upset or offended somebody. Ignore them, and they get bored and go away... or at least, out of range.

I belong to a jeep club, we have recently switched over to uhf radios from cbs. cBs have had their day, in the bush or trails their distance is very limited. The ability to have a uhf that you can manually program has been the way to go. Look into the Baofeng 5vr, at $40.00 ish Canadian it is well worth it. If you get an external antenna you can up your range considerably.
As well if you get two they work great for spotting when backing the trailer up.

In the US, the Baofeng operates in amateur radio bands (ham) that require an FCC license. Many unlicensed people still use them but there has been discussion on limiting their sale or distribution somehow.

The application Waze works great if you have Android auto our use on a cell phone for letting you know what is going on up ahead.
