Champion 3500 Invertor

Hello to everyone, and I have another question and looking for help.

I have a chance to get a good buy on Champion 3500 Invertor new. And have one question, and if everything is turned off in my Jayco 29 RKS will the Champion be enough to run my a/c (Airxcel) 15 amp? I thought that I read on the forum earlier this summer this question was asked and the response was
yes it will. But I just want to confirm this. I called my dealer and he said that he has a Honda 3000 and he had to put a "hard start" on his to make it work

Thanks for any and all info.

Yes it will. Our Champion 3100 runs our 13.5k a/c without a problem. Our a/c is 2015 factory standard (no hard start capacitor unless it came from Jayco equipped with one).

I was reading reviews from people who bought the gas/propane version at 2800W running and 3100W peak.....

Several said that it would not fire off a 15K AC.

Ours does but just barley

We have a 2017 Octane SL 273. 15K A/C. We have the new version of the Champion dual fuel 3500 that came out earlier this year.

We run it almost exclusively on propane. Really like it.

If we have everything off, even the radio, it will run the A/C. If anything turns on, refrigerator or radio or whatever, it will kick-off.

Options, don't turn on anything electric. Fridge and water heater can go on gas. No problem.

It hasn't been too much of an issue for us. If it does, we will buy a second generator as they can run in tandem.

We do like it though. It works. Plain and simple. Which they would make the dual fuel with the remote start. :-)

Follow up on Invertor

I wanted to share the follow up regarding the Champion 3500 Invertor. I fellow forum member brought his Champion over to our camper, and we hooked it up and then turned on the a/c. The invertor was in high mode, and it ran it perfectly. Then I turned on the refrig, microwave, and the tv, ran perfect. Then
I reduced the power the on the invertor, and the a/c cycled just like it should. This was a total success regarding the Champion 3500 Invertor running our 15K btu a/c Jay Flight 29 RKS. I ordered our own Invertor and can't wait to use it when we going boondocking.

It is great to have friends like this to help out and answer all of our questions.

What size AC do you have? Looking at purchasing the same size inverter to replace the two 2Kwatt units with adapter we have now.

3500

I also purchased the 3500 dual fuel earlier this summer. Almost every time I try to start the AC on our 26BH (13.5K) it overloads and shuts down the genny on both propane and gas. I fire it back up, fire up the AC, and it works the second time...every time. I have gone as far as shutting of the breakers on every other system to see if it would make a difference and it does not. We have only dry camped in Central Point, Oregon and Union Valley Resevoir, California so elevation doesn't seem to be the issue. I have contacted Champion and they can't seem to explain the issue. I have been waiting for a call back from the "guru" of their tech department (Jim at extension 167) for almost a month.

Champion Hybrid 3500/4000

My Champion Hybrid Inverter 3500 will run a stock Aircel 15K BTU at 10,000 feet above sea level, no problem.

When it's on park power, the AC draws 12 Amps, steady state. Also, it's quiet in the Eco Mode.

Champion may not start ac

This summer a new Champion 3100/2800 ran the 13.5 ac (brand?) on our 2011 x23b no problem. Now on our 2016 23rlsw Dometic 13.5 ac the Champion would kick out on ac start up. Ran fan first still kicked out. All filters etc clean.
Ran the ac on shore power, ac started and ran good no problem.
Ran on shore power for 30 minutes. Hooked Champion back up then it would run ac with the overload light flashing just once on start up. Leave the ac until next day and the same scenario would occur.
I installed a hard start capacitor recommended by Dometic.
Now the Champion starts the Dometic ac first time every time.
Learning for me: Even though the 3100/2800 should start the ac no problem a hard start capacitor may need to be added. Don't assume 3100/2800 champion will start all ac's.

I just bought a 3500 Champion refurbished from a Champion service shop. First off I'm really happy with the refurbished unit. And I only paid $799.
It runs the 15k AC on my Eagle just fine.
One thing I found out about newer Coleman AC units is that they come from the factory already equipped with a hard start capacitor. Not sure what year this started - mine is a 2016.

I asked my dealer to install a hard start capacitor. They called Coleman to determine/verify the capacitor needed. Coleman told them it was already there. I then did some deep Googling and found quite a few discussions verifying what the dealer was told.
But the best verification was when my generator arrived and fired up the AC without breaking a sweat.

Buddy - Here on the East side of the USA you may run into generator run time restriction just about every you go using the public camp grounds. Even the Natl Forest has generator run time restriction up in the northern part of Georgia...

On private places you won't have any problems if the private owners allow it...

Check with some of your local places and see what the generator run time is going to be for you...

I have never found those places even allow you to use your generator after 8PM in the evening until 8AM in the next mornings...

I am actually thinking of taking my 13,500 Air Condition off my OFF-ROAD POPUP Tent Trailer and adding a second 12VDC Fantastic Fan in it place... Then I can use some solar panels to trickle charge my batteries during the high sun day..

In my case I have beefed up the Converter, added more batteries, use LED lights, and only use my 2KW Honda generator in the mornings where allowed to charge back up my battery banks. This takes a good three hours of running my 2KW Generator to get from the 50% charge state to the 90% charge state so I can do this all over again for the next day/run off my batteries. Of course this does not let me run my air condition or high wattage microwave...

Just passing along if you have not looked into this yet...
