Close call with propane
We had to move to another site yesterday due to power problems. After the move, only to the next site. We set up, leveled and then had to go run an errand to pickup some prescription refills.
On the way back, we got a call from the campground that someone reported our 2 dogs barking and an alarm going off in the rig. We were about 15 minutes away and in full alert, wondering all the things that it could be and very concerned about the fur babies and what they must be going thru.
When we arrived, the propane alarm was going off and we got the dogs outside quickly and calmed down. One of us must have bumped a gas valve on the stove. It was slightly ajar but not lit. Fortunately we had opened all windows and roof vents before we left because the weather was very warm.
This was a wake up call for us to make sure that the gas valves are off before leaving the rig. It does not take much to accidentally turn one on.
Hopefully the telling of this incident might make some of you aware of the precautions that need to be taken.

Wow. I'm so happy that everything is OK. I just posted a few days ago about a propane incident that happend near where I work. You can never let your guard down when it comes to propane safety.

Glad everything and everyone was OK and thanks for the reminder, norty1.
We had a similar thing happen, but discovered a stove valve was turned on slightly when I went back into the trailer because I had forgotten my sunglasses. It served as a wake-up call for us to check those valves every time before leaving the trailer.

Glad everything was okay.
Came home to our stick and brick a couple of months ago to the smell of gas - like you, one of us had bumped a know on the stove on the way out. Now DW is always the last one out and checks every knob as she leaves.

Sure glad things worked out ok! It is a very good reminder to double check things before leaving. Glad they had your phone number to alert you.

Glad to hear that everything worked out and thank you for posting this. We've only been RVing for 2 years so I am still learning new things all the time. This is something I never even thought about.

We were awakened one night by our propane alarm. Similar scenario, must have bumped the stove before laying down. These alarmes can be a pain, when conditioning batteries or using bug spray, but they are worth the hassle.

we have a great dane - he turns on the burners in the house with his tail all the time (he also turns lights on/off and makes babies out of men with his tail frequently, too). i will have to put this on my check list for the rv from now on - thanks for sharing!!

Maybe not fake news . . .
Had a very similar thing happen to me. We had about an acre of lawn out front, with our mailbox at the foot of driveway. Our Sheltie Cal liked to kick up a storm at the mailbox as I stopped every night to check the mail. I'd leave the truck running in park (dumb), no e-brake on (dumber), and climb out to the mailbox. I was casually looking through the mail when I looked up, and my truck was half way up the front lawn heading for the house, dog at the wheel! Fortunately, it didn't get up much steam on idle and I was able catch it before it hit the house! I don't think you think about filming it when it's actually happening to you though . . . .

It happened to us, too. Not sure if we bumped the burner knob or if one of our two cats were climbing around the stove and turned it slightly 'on'. We now remove the burner knobs when not in use, and do the same thing at home. As soon as we finish using the burner, we remove the knob and put it aside.

We had the same thing happen one night. I think I bumped the stove when putting a leash on the dog. Came back in after the walk and smelled propane.
To prevent that from happening in the future I just took the knobs off the stove and just put them on when I neee to cook. Very hard to accidentally turn on stove with no knobs.
