I disconnect all batteries while stored so the parasitic drain doesn't deplete the batteries before the next use. Each time I do so, the EQ does what yours did. Pressing the retract button seems to "reboot" the system and all works well.
Also, check the two small electrical connections at the hydraulic pump. I found they work themselves loose from vibrations while driving, and that causes all sorts of issues. On mine there was a nut on the post, then the connection, then another nut, which is all supposed to hold things tight. Problem was, there was no lock washer on either nut - only a thin serrated washer on the first nut. I put lock washers on each one and no more working loose.
