Favorite Alaska RV park

Was going to go to Alaska summer of 2021, due to Covid was not able to travel through Canada, now planing a 2022 trip. Looking for feedback on favorite RV camping sites in Alaska specifically Kenai peninsula.

Seward has a waterfront RV park
Like most its a parking lot but with a terrific view and close to everything ; there are benches and flowers along a waterfront path
We stayed in a State Park near Homer as the beach RV park didnt look appealing. Its right in the middle of all the gee gaw shops

Be prepared for culture shock at RV parks in Alaska. Most of the ones we stayed at during our RV trip to Alaska, the space you get is about 10-12 feet from the camper next door. Here's an example.

If I remember correctly you back up to the water and if you have a huge Bay Window in the rear your “Golden” & you’ll never leave.

If I remember correctly you back up to the water and if you have a huge Bay Window in the rear your “Golden” & you’ll never leave.

Only the first row. There are four main rows and several more areas further away from
water
The reason the campground is there is an earthquake wiped out all
the residences there and the town did not permit rebuilding of them.
We camoed in a couple of RV parks and found them to be just parking lots full
of caravaners. People who pay 11 grand for an escorted RV tour
So for the most part we stayed in State Parks which are unserviced but beautiful sites

How did you make out going to Alaska? We are waiting for COVID to slow up. We had all our shots but I have stage 1 going into stage 2 lung cancer. If I get it even with the shots I will die. I don’t want my wife stuck in Alaska. We have a hybrid now but after this winter staying in our 2007 Jayco we have to have a trailer without tip outs. Solid walls due to animals. We are working out our route and campground now. This is what we dreamed about for over 40 years of the Rv lifestyle.

We traveled from Maine to California during Covid. Feb 2021. We did not feel the risk was higher than staying at home. We just visited grocery stores . Most meals were either socially distanced as we eat early( 5 pm) or take out.
For our Alaska 2017 trip we entered Canada pretty far east in Hereford VT and went cross country through Ontario and the rest of the provinces. I found Alaska Highway a breeze for travel. We never expected a gas station more than every 300 miles and planned for that. We did carry a spare jerry can with 10 gal. I wish Maine roads were as good as the Alaska Highway.

I can't advise for your particular situation though . That is a tough one;your lungs are already fighting a battle.That said if you can take the usual precautions and avoid crowded tours etc you can enter grocery stores and grab provisions. We never found crowds in the stores but we did not shop in metro Fairbanks or Anchorage.

We liked River's Edge RV Park in Fairbanks, Talkeetna Camper Park, in Talkeetna. If you go to McCarthy to see the Kennecott Mine, the Kenny Lake RV Park & Merchantile is pretty good (not fancy but clean and reasonable). Bayside RV park in Valdez.

Mc Carthy and the Kennicott mine is a must but the road is rough While there is a camping area before the pedestrian bridge travel eith an RV is a bad idea

I agree with that! If you want to go to McCarthy, stay in Kenny Lake or closer to Chitina. We paid for a round trip ride in shuttle (a van) from Kenny Lake to the end of the road at McCarthy. It's a long ride - 3 hours each way maybe? But well worth it. The road is rough, hard on vehicles and tires.

Quite passable though in a high clearance vehicle like a truck.. We liked the ability to stop and admire the scenery ( Copper River). There was one really bad section but no worse than at home. It all depends on the sort of roads you are accustomed to. Some of the road is narrow and requires a little give and take if you meet someone coming the other way.
We stayed in Squirrel Creek State Recreation site. It was a good size for our small trailer.
