Fresh Water Siphon

We own a Jayco Octane T30F with dual water tanks.

We have noticed that after a quick weekend trip we are extremely low or out of water. Being the water miser that I am I couldn't explain the reason behind the water usage. No showers, minimal dish washing, minimal toilet use.

When I took it in to get winterized I talked with our mechanic and he mentioned several years ago they ran into an issue where the overflow hoses were actually siphoning water from the tanks while the RV sat and especially when it was being towed.

My thoughts are to put some kind of valve or kink in the hose to prevent this from happening but wanted to quiz the collective to see if anyone else has run into this issue.

Pretty positive the tanks are completely full when I'm getting it ready to go based on filling time and the overflows running after filling for a while. I did notice water in the gutter on the curb the next morning after getting it ready to take off.

Its been discussed here several times, the fix was as suggested to put a valve in the overflow tube. Open the valve when filling the tank, close it when hitting the road.

I used valves when we had our SENECA. You just have to remember to open them when filling the tank and also after you get to the CG.

I have an octane T32b and it always drains the fresh water when traveling. This is how I fixed it.

For me the solution was ro pull the hose up higher into the cabinet to create a higher lope. If the hose settles down, there is a greater chance for syphoning.

The hose isn't accessible in any cabinet on my toy hauler.

Do you have a pic of the back side bracket? straight Barbs or 90?

Actually, I was at the Jayco factory last year and they knew about the problem. Their solution was to ty-wrap the hoses as high as you can get them but it didn't work for me.


I purchased a three to one manifold pvc at Lowes and attached this to the three overflow hoses out of my fresh tank. I then ran the other outlet on the manifold with a new hose near my Water entry point. I had to drill a new hole and put a valve on this hose. I labeled it "water overflow" and I open it when filling or using water from the tank. Has worked great.

I didn't want to have to remember the valve every time I added water. I just added an "H" (2 T fittings and a short hose) between the two overflow hoses. Problem solved.
