Here's How They Did It - Back In The Day

I just ran across this article:

https://www.atlasobscura.com/article...-100-years-ago

Pretty fun to look back in time.

And check out this old 5-er!

Enjoy the holiday weekend

No power pedestals, no sewer or water hookups, not a single cable hookup, not a single strand of bright neon Christmas lights!? Where is the ice cream shop or bar and grill!? How in the heck did these people consider that camping?

Ran across this in a museum......they used a canvas tent that attached to their vehicle.

Wow, apparently the classification system has also changed a lot over the years. Last photo caption "A family picnics outside a fifth-wheel camper trailer near Panama City, Florida, in 1977." Sure looks like a pop-up camper to me?

What’s really great about that pic is how they’ve disguised the cell towers to look like trees. Amazing! So few campers, the WiFi must be blindingly fast.

No satellite dishes. What could they possibly do for entertainment?

Yeah we've gotten softer over the years - but I'm fine with that!

I will say that we're heading out next week for 10 days to the eastern sierras with no cell service, data or wifi and I'm happy about this!!!

Good holiday to all.

I went to the 1967 Worlds Fair in Canada with my sister and our parents in one of these little campers pulled with my dad’s 1964 Plymouth Furry push button automatic convertible. They had it so loaded down the hitch drug on bigger bumps in the road! We broke down two times on the trip. I was 8 years old and this was the most fun and memorable vacation I had as a child. Something I will never forget.

In 1967 we had a mobile traveler pick up camper. Back then there was no grey tank only a black tank, the grey water just ran out on the ground.

You're way too modest. It really had 53 hp. I had a '66 camper, and it was embarrassing when a jogger passed me on a steep hill. Beat me to the top, too.

Ah, my brand new 1972 Ford Econoline van. Had paneling on the walls, fur bed, shag carpet, Creedence Clearwater Revival poster on the wall. Used it to camp in the sand dunes. Bathroom was in the bushes in the beginning. Then the greatest upgrade was a bright green porta potti that was battery operated. Cooked with an old pump-up Coleman campstove on top of the porta potti.

I loved that experience, but then again I was only 22 at the time. These days I would feel lost without my satellite TV and the ability of turning my cell phone into a hot spot. The OLD bones just couldn't take the old adventures.

My 3 sons were introduced to off-road camping with our Beaver Camper. Now that was styling! When it came time for my sons to start camping on their own, did they start in a tent, van, or camper? Heck no. Their choice was a nice 5th wheel. Just think of what they missed out on.
