Hose fitting electrolysis warning

Warning - - Do not mix metals on hose fittings.
I had this (Zinc I think, and Brass) combination and when disassembling during hook-up to city water I opened the connection between the hose shutoff valve and the brass pressure regulator. It had been sealed up about 2 months.
The cavity was full of dense white liquid, see picture, it was about 10% full of solid crystals of some kind. Had I not inspected it, that residue would have gone into the fresh water tank.
I replaced it with a nice new BRASS valve.

I've seen that with pot metal valves on my house hose. Now I just use brass ones also.

That’s galvanic corrosion. Corrosion between dissimilar metals.
