More camp site availability on the horizon

I know many are not KOA fans, but there may be more availability in the near future.

From RV Business:

In the past four years, Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) has seen an explosion of new construction campgrounds, according to a release from the Billings, Mont.-based franchisor of some 525 campgrounds. This dramatic increase points to the health of KOA and the camping industry as a whole.

New KOA

Grumpy, your article post couldn't be more spot on about new facilities.
The following KOA just opened and I've been trying to figure out if I want to pay the price just to camp in a field. Given the current camp shortage I might just have to do that. This KOA is in Mt. Gilead, OH, about 1 hour drive for me. It's located on a former golf course. Heated zero entry pool is completed. Pub and grill on premise too. Most reviews have a similar comment "this place will be terrific once it's developed more into a campground ground versus golf course.

Small world. We camped at the "old" KOA for probably 10+ years with our Starcraft Club.

RVtravel.com predicts 53,000 more campsites in 2021. I hope so.

They may be on to something. Golf courses tend to be money losers (ask Trump) and with the right modifications could be nice, profitable RV parks in the right locations. Typically they have trees, lakes and clubhouses. Go for it KOA!

I have noticed a couple of OLD and long ago sold KOA's have recently been re-purchased and upgraded back to KOA standards.

The former Country Club near me was sold a couple of years ago to a private individual. It used to be a beautiful course. It is now an absolute disaster. It would have been better off as a campground.

The former Newark Country Club is now a campground here. I know the owner, but haven't checked it out much as yet. Driving by, it does appear to be mostly seasonal now. I'm sure out of necessity. The interesting part is the country club was originally built on top of the old town dump from years ago.

Near me the former golf course is a sub-division and the club house is now a private residence and office for an electrical contractor. Location would not be good for a campground.

I saw on another New Pigeon Forge facility that is now booking for Spring 2021. https://pigeonforgelandingrvresort.com. This is newly constructed, on the west prong of the Little Pigeon River. Located right behind the "Titanic Museum" Attraction. Wonder on earth how they got the zoning approved on that one. It's basically in a neighborhood. Anyway was chatting with the President, Lloyd, and he gave me rates for October, very reasonable. Choice of Riverside with either safe book refund price or 90% return price. Pull through and back in, all full hookups. All concrete pads. Somewhat stacked sites but that's city livin' I guess.

Supply and demand is a wonderful thing! We're now in a shortage of campsites so more sites appear.

Looks like this is taking over the old American Bandstand Theatre property.
