I think VICR was only suggesting that; if you were to submit a sample of your oil to Blackstone for analysis, you would discover that it is not necessary to change oil as frequently as you do based on time or your observation of how dirty your oil is. But, as VICR stated, it's your dough.

Best to change oil when engine is warmed up. Two primary reasons. You get a more thorough "flush" and . . with that . . the increased flow volume carries more debris with it.

Additionally, in place of the original drain plug, I installed a "magnetic" drain plug. As oil drains from the engine, any metal chips or metallic fuzz is collected by a small magnetic probe, thereby giving me a heads up on engine wear and internal failures.

I prefer to change mine hot because my Dad said that was the way to do it. I guess I'm old school but it just seems logical to do it that way so all the crap gets out.
