Thinking of getting an awning for our slide out, but I was told that if the wind gets strong, over 15 mph, you have to pull in the slide or risk damage to the awning. Is this correct? If we are in the trailer because of the weather, pulling in the slide is impractical.
I've never had a problem with wind and I camp right at the Oceans edge on the west coast and my slide. Is 11' long by 3' wide. The only one I bring in is the big awning.
I've had the wind do some numbers on mine, as in balloon them up a little, but never suffered any damage at all. We've always had Dometic slide toppers.

We have left ours out for every trip except last spring when we were in 40-50 mph gusts and sustained 25 mph winds. I got concerned about it. It was highly inconvenient since our Murphy bed cannot be lowered/used with the slide in. Other than that, we are very grateful for the slide topper. Ours is a nice (main awning matching) CareFree.
If you properly anchor and brace the main awing, you can leave it out in the wind and rain. We winter in Fl. and have gone through 25-30 mph winds and have not had to bring in the awning. Just drop one side to guard against water puddling. Slide toppers have not been a problem for me.
