Slide Out Issue - Better Check Yours

I have a 2015 Jay Flight 26BHS. On a recent trip, we opened the slide out and realized that the carpet under the slide was wet. I went out to inspect and found that the top of the slide has rubbed two gashes into the side of my trailer. The top of my slide pulls in tight against the aluminum siding. I guess that over time, movement from traveling caused the slide to rub and slowly wore two holes into the side of my trailer. I am 8 months past warranty. I contacted Jayco to see if they would help and they will not. I spoke with them many times and each time they simply stated that they were sorry but I am past my warranty period. I understand I am past my warranty, but this is something that probably started a long time ago and is due to the slide not being aligned correctly at the factory. I am posting here to warn others and suggest you check your trailers for any sign of wear along the top of the slide where it meets the trailer siding. I will try to post a couple of pictures to show the issue. The first picture shows the locations of the two gashes. In this picture I have the gashes covered in tape to keep water out. The second picture is taken with the slide partly open. You can see one of the gashes and the sharp edge of the slide that caused it.

My slide has a rubber gasket at the top of the slide which prevents the slide from direct contact with the RV sidewall. Looks like yours is missing.

troutslayer,
Thanks for the tip. I will see if I can get a gasket to put on there!

Make sure it's properly adjusted. I would think that it is in to far at the top to put that much pressure against the sidewall. It'll quickly wear thru a seal if it's putting that much pressure on the wall.

Can anyone tell me how thick the metal trim is on the slide? I want to order a seal for it but my unit is in storage.

Looks like the tape along the front edge is ready for a new layer, that buckling is a concern.

+1, I have rubber gasket on the top and down the sides of all slides. So I think you have more of a missing gasket issue than anything else. Without the gasket water can get down to and sit on that buckled tape -slowly seeping in over time.

I also agree with PlayersZ28: the slide may require adjustment to keep it from closing too tight. However, with proper gasketing this shouldn't be an issue.

I believe after 7 years on the forum this is the first time I have seen this. Agree there should be a seal there.
