New to Jayco owners forum

Writing my first post to thank the admin for welcoming my wife and I to the Jayco family and to tell you all hello.

We owned a really sweet Jayco pop up when the kids were still living at home, but then they grew up and moved away. Sold the poo up and bought a bought... or 2, and stopped camping.

Now that I'm retiring in a few months, we are closing in on purchasing a 2018 Jay Flight 29RKS. This will be a big change for me and frankly I'm a little intimidated.

I've been watching many YouTube videos to try and learn about weight distribution hitches, gray water and waste water, and everything in between.

We are very excited about getting back to the Jayco camping lifestyle, but I'm way out of my expertise here. I will have a bunch of questions and will need to learn which forum to ask them in; among other things.

Thank you all for the help and patience as we try to "blend in". Cheers.

Congratulations and welcome! We went from a pop up of many years to a White Hawk 27DSRL for one year and traded it this weekend for a 28.5 Eagle HT fifth wheel. We didn't know squat about any of them, but thanks to the expertise of the people on this forum, we have learned an amazing amount of great information that has made our experience fun and safe.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the upcoming retirement.

You didn't mention the tow vehicle (TV) you have or will be buying. You will need to keep in mind that the PAYLOAD of your TV will be a critical number. Salesmen (RV and vehicle) will talk about towing capacity, but the limit you'll reach first is the PAYLOAD (all of the stuff in and on your truck, in the truck bed, plus the tongue weight of the trailer and the trailer hitch). For planning purposes, the tongue weight for a 2018 Jay Flight 29RKS is ~1,400lbs (9500 gross X 0.15). Hope this helps a bit.

welcome and agree with oldmanAZ that payload is probably the most important number and that salespeople generally ignore it.

I have the 2013 FX2 3.5 Ecoboost with the middle rear end.. think it says 9600#... the dry weight of the 29RKS is 6700.. or so I think, but the maximum loaded weight of the trailer is right at my towing max.. I will definitely keep my fresh water tank less than half to cut down on weight... at some point will go across scales to get actual weights.. thanks!!!

CONGRATULATIONS on the soon to own JAYCO!!!

...and WELCOME TO JOF!!! The members here are GREAT!!! There is a lot of GREAT information to be found here. I am sure that you will have information and pictures to share with us... so please do!!

If you did not already look, your trucks limits are posted on the drivers door just below the locking mechanism. Those numbers are specifically for your truck. The cross reference charts on the web, will get you in the ball park, if you know your frame length, tow-packages, axle ratio, 2wd or 4wd.....

It sure does. Thank you. I have a 2013 FX2 3.5L Ecoboost. .and the rear differential is the middle of the 3 offered.. not the lighter towing and not the 11,500lb towing.. I'm 9600 - 9800 lb towing. I need to check on tongue weight and payload limits....thanx
