Newbie from Michigan

Hello!
I am excited to be here. We are purchasing our first TT and I have a ton of questions (especially about the electrical systems and solar packages), but I am reading all I can on this forum first to see if its already been discussed.
Looking forward to learning and getting to know other members.

Welcome! We enjoyed your state, specifically up in the North Peninsula and Mackinaw City area, last summer!

CONGRATULATIONS on the JAYCO!!!

...and WELCOME TO JOF!!! The members here are GREAT!!! There is a lot of GREAT information to be found here. I am sure that you will have information and pictures to share with us... so please do!!

Don

We have a RVing with SOLAR Social Group (under Communities) that discusses installations, SOLAR panel kits, batteries, SOLAR Charge Controllers.. it may help you in deciding if SOLAR is the way you want to go in the future.

You can also use the "SEARCH" feature in the yellow bar above and enter "Renogy", it is a mfr that a lot of members have gone with.. GREAT company, and not as expensive as the others.. GREAT support also.

Congratulations on the new Jayco and welcome to the JOF from a fellow Michigander!

I have been on the board for about a year now and are awaiting the arrival of our first Jayco. As I am sure you will find out rather quickly, the other posters on this board are fantastic and their knowledge seems to be endless. I am sure you will find your stay here, very informative indeed.

Enjoy the new camper!

Colleen,

Welcome and congrats on the new rig!!!!

As you may have read elsewhere here, make sure you get a good wdh (weight distribution hitch), possibly one with integrated sway control (not sure what trailer you are buying). The Reese Dual Cam, Reese SC, and the Equal-I-Zer 4 way system are all very good. If you choose the Dual Cam, make sure the dealer knows how to properly install the cam brackets. The SC and the 4 way system are very similar in how they work. The Reese does offer a little more fine tuning of the hitch head for the wdh adjustment.

If needed, follow my signature links for a ton of wdh info!!! Also plan on readjusting the wdh once you load the trailer up for a trip. The dealer is only setting the hitch up for an empty trailer. Also, do not let the dealer give you wd bars based on the "dry hitch/tongue weight". The "dry tw" does not include the weight of the propane tanks or a battery on the tongue. Those alone can add ~120# for 2-20# tanks and a battery, or ~160# for 2-30# tanks and a battery. As an example, our "dry tw" of 920# is about 1400# loaded, ready for a trip.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions!!! Some days may be a little slower to get an answer, but one of us will be along soon enough to try to help.

If allowed, video tape the walk through when they show you how to use everything in the trailer. And try to break it into smaller sections so you don't have to watch the whole thing to remember what is at the end of the walk through! Lol

Good luck!!!

If you make it back to Mackinaw City and if you like hot wings, the Keyhole Bar and Grill has the best wings IMHO. And awesome onion rings as well!!!

We had some really good pizza at place on the main drag there. Also, we dabbled with the local beers and fruit wine!

Thanks for the tip!
