Set Maximum Video Width

Sometimes embedded videos are so wide that they force the page width to wider than the open window on my computer, requiring side scrolling. Is there any way to set a maximum video width that's displayed? I was able to set the max width of images (to 240 px) in the User Control Panel, Edit Options, but I didn't see anywhere to adjust video size.

Thanks Norty. It's not really a big deal, but it would make the forums just a little bit more user friendly, in my opinion.

There's not much to work with here and since you state "computer" in your post, I'll assume this to be a Windows device, although, a Apple Mac's are computers too.

If the problem video you're watching on JOF is using YouTube, here's a link to a YouTube help webpage called Video resolution & aspect ratios. The problem can be caused when a video you're trying to watch is using an aspect ratio that creates an image that's too large and unable to fit the video image within the confines of your screen. Setting the aspect ratio so a smaller image is produced might resolve your problem. I can't give you much more help than this unless you post the URL of the video you're having the problem with along with the URL of a video that displays properly so we can compare them to determine what's different between the two. A lot really depends on how the video was recorded and it's entirely possible that there is no aspect ratio available that will provide the results you desire.

I'm using a Macbook pro, Catalina 10.15.7

One of the posts that expands the width is this one:

Try:
Maximize a window: Press and hold the Option key while you click the green button in the top-left corner of an app window. ...
Minimize a window: Click the yellow minimize button in the top-left corner of the window, or press Command-M.

Thanks Muckinfuss, but that didn't do what I wanted.

I think I figured out how to adjust the display to my liking. The problem was that I was increasing the page zoom to 120% to get the text size up to where I could easily read it. However, doing that also increased the imbedded video size, stretching out the entire forum page.

I opened up Firefox Settings and adjusted the text size to 20px. That allows me to set the page zoom at 90%, which makes the video smaller and preventing the page from getting wider.

Thanks for all the help!

Glad the brain trust came together! Admin said it wasn't the forum software.
