Organ Pipe Cactus National Park

Has anyone here ever been to Organ Pipe Cactus National Park in southern Arizona? I'm getting a little tired of Quartzsite and have been thinking about going down there.

To the west of that is the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge. I might go there too. Anyone been there?

At one time, tours of Organ Pipe had to be led by armed rangers due to border security issues. Maybe that issue is better now, but the official Organ Pipe website (clicky) has some safety cautions.

Not sure where you read that. Twin Peaks campground inside Organ Pipe can handle RV's up to 45 feet in length.

I might just do that, Seann, but probably after the first of the year. Still want to try and make it to Organ Pipe Cactus NM, maybe later this week. Looks like the mornings will be above freezing there starting Friday morning, so I'll probably head out there Thursday.

What are the "LoW's"?

opps found another place says 40ft in the camp sites guess the 25 is for touring the area. My mistake.

The number one danger: Driving
Most visitor injuries in the monument result from motor vehicle accidents. Speed limits along all roads within the park are established for your safety and to protect the animals that cross these roads. Remember, too, that you share the road with bicyclists and pedestrians. Due to the uneven nature of the terrain, the scenic drives have a 25 foot vehicle length limit.

That's for scenic drives. The campground, and evidently the drive to it, can accommodate longer rigs. Quote from the link I provided above:

Twin Peaks Campground has 34 tent-only sites and 174 places for RVs. Several sites can accommodate RVs up to 45 feet in length.
