QOTD (question of the day)

Camping for many years, I've always struggled with 'gear'- what to bring, what not to bring- what will I really need- what will I actually use? We all have stories about stuff we've forgot or camped without (those are the best stories!)- and stuff we've always brought and never used!

So here is the dispute (and the question)...

Have it and not need it? (Survival king?)

Or...

Less is more? (Trying to be a minimalist?)

That's me.

Having spent some time backpacking over the years I learned real fast to bring only what one needs, possibly a "little" extra for an extended emergency.

I approach my TV/TT loading the same way, my loaded weight tends to fluctuate with how long I plan to be on the road.

I like do take as little as I can. Though sometimes it is not on purpose.

We have a little extra space so I'm in the "have it and not need it" camp. We dont go overboard on it though.

I'm a 'bring just the basics' guy. DW though, well, you know........

I bring what I think I will need and if I need something I buy it in the nearest town. Because of that philosophy I seem to have duplicates and triplicates of lots of things.

Thats hysterical! I had to break down and buy an over-the-fire-grill- because A. Mr. Smartypants didn't think to bring it- and, B. We didn't know the CG didn't have them over their fire pits (like at many state CG's do here in IL), and C. You can't cook shish-kebab's in a frying pan. So now I have two grills.

It's been my experience that those items you pack that you "might" need are never needed until the very next camping trip after you unpack them and leave them back home.
