Why are some saying KILL IT? If you don't like nature stay away from it.. SELL YOUR RV.. Where I camp in SoCal I see snakes, tarantellas and scorpions, the only time I killed one was when a scorpion "jumped" on me. Otherwise I have a live and let live policy.

A friend and I were at the Phoenix Zoo once a few years back when we heard a moaning sound coming from the Galapagos Tortoise exhibit. It turned out one was mating with another one. I've never seen it done so slowly!

I guess my slinging lead comment offended some of y'all - sorry; how do you feel about smashing flies/gnats/skeeters, another one of my natural defensive/offenses?

We had a house burn down in our neighborhood yesterday because the house owner had poisonous snakes inside. The Fireman would not go inside to fight it after finding out they were inside.

Crossed paths and took pic of this healthy fella here in Michigan a few summers ago..., once it made it to the grassy area it turned around and with it's puffed-up head (like a Cobra) started hissing, never seen the likes of this snake in Michigan before. National Forest Ranger told me it was an "Eastern Hognose" and they get over 3ft long.

I would have thought the firefighters' turnout gear and boots would have easily blocked a snake bite.

Not in this part of the country. No life was in danger. All got out without a snakebite.

Who knew there was so much turtle nookie going on?!
Only snakes that don't get a pass at my house are rattlers. Can't afford to have them around with a toddler toddling about. If I see them in nature though, I just steer clear and let them be.

Those are cool snakes. My grandpa called 'em "puff adders". They play dead too, if you bug them enough. Kinda like a possum.

Well, I hope I don't catch any grief for this, but...
One of my rattlesnakes was out again today, sunning him/her self. Since I've never heard one rattle in real life, I made the wise (?) decision of gently prodding it with a stick to see if I could get it to shake its tail. It certainly did rattle, and it reared back its big head and looked at me. Then it casually slid back into its culvert, rattling its tail all the way in.
I had a camera in one hand and the stick in another. After I nudged it, I got so excited I forgot to take a picture of it in action. However, I did get a picture of it before I disturbed it, and got a "head shot" this time. I'll post it later.

Exactly.....haven't we humans caused enough damage to wildlife....we complain about the snakes and when the snake population is depleted, then we'll complain about the rodent population. When you're out in the nature in spring, expect to see snakes.....carry a snake stick with you and flip them out of the way.

Don't be ticking off the snakes, we are going to be there in 2 weeks and we don't need no mad snakes.

I tell you I'd have a real hard time leaving them be 20' from my camper when I have 2 toddlers running around. That being said I'd definitely talk to local authorities/ park rangers in hopes of relocating them or getting some insight.

I actually saw two snakes today. One, I think, was a garter snake of some kind. And then my friendly rattlesnake, of course. And I had a looonnng stick!

OK. No more. I left Banks Lake today anyway. I was afraid the snakes would find a way into my Jayco. LOL

I think you are right SmokerBill - the one looks like a Western Terrestrial Garter Snake --> http://www.bentler.us/eastern-washin...ter-snake.aspx
We've been contemplating a trip over to Sun Lakes-Dry Falls State Park - maybe we'll wait a bit......
