Wasps In Cabinet Latch

I have seen wasp nests before but this is all new to me.

While doing routine maintenance on my rig I went to open a storage cabinet. On the handle were 3 wasps just hanging there so I brought out the good old wasp spray. The 3 immediately dropped and then the fun began.

A wasp crawled out from behind the handle, and then another, and then another and they kept coming. I kept spraying of course.

All in all I killed 20 wasps. How they had packed in behind that small handle is beyond me. And why would they want to even stuff in there?

Definitely freaked me out because I had almost opened that cabinet in the dark but had decided to wait. Now am a bit gun shy about sticking my fingeres in there.

They're looking for a nice cozy spot for the winter, and they chose you! Thank goodness you didn't get stung.

We see mud daubers in every bolt and screw head recess they can find.

Another place to beware of is the propane tank(s) cover on TTs with tongue mounted propane tanks.
My uncle learned this the hard way when he whipped open the hinged lid on the cover and ripped apart a wasp nest.
Wasps had built a nest inside the cover, partly attached to the lid. The wasps were NOT happy about their nest being destroyed.
Uncle received multiple stings, but healed up just fine.

Wasps in my spare tire that I have a cover on, and I can count on Mud Dobbers in the small round door stop tube. Clean them out every trip. Had birds nests in the spare tire one summer.

The ends of my tongue A frame were a new home for them last summer. I leaned down to snap on the chains and one came out. A can later, a long piece of wood and a chunk of mud dauber nest and a few "former" residents were evicted. I added a can of wasp spray to my 'to go" miscellaneous box.
