Break away battery

2018 octane toyhauler. Does the break away work off of main battery ? Nothing on A frame, or do I have to crawl under AGAIN ?

The break away should be wired to your 12 volt battery, or to the positive wire in the 7 pin plug between the truck and the trailer battery. The systems that have the seperate smaller battery on the tongue frame, are for smaller, or older units, that (usually) don't have a 12 volt battery.

Follow the wires from the break away switch, and one will go to a positive power source and the other will connect to the blue wire going to the traile brake circuit. It doesn't matter which wire goes where, since they're interchangeable. When the pin is pulled, it just completes a simple 12 volt circuit.

The breakaway switch has to be powered by a battery that's mounted on the trailer. If it's getting power from the tow vehicle 7 pin plug it's useless.

If the trailer actually "breaks away" completely from the tow vehicle the break away circuit will lose its power source, and the trailer will be free rolling down the highway.

Being powered by a battery mounted on the trailer, the brakes will lock up, as they should, if the trailer disconnects completely from the tow vehicle.

Jeffp60,
I too have a 2018 Octane. The breakaway on mine is routed and powered through the main trailer batteries.

Thanks. I just got last month so I'm going through it. Can I ask you this. Near the sewer output I have 5 capped wires (3 blue,1 large red,1 light red) they go up wire the chase pipe to appears to be sink area. Any idea of purpose ? Possibly for a fuel station.
Jayco sent wire diagram but not very accurate.
