Generator stops running

We just bought a used Alante 26c. On our drive from Fl home to Iowa we had to run the generator to enable the AC because the cockpit AC was not sufficient. On day 3 the generator (4k Cummins/Onan) began shutting off after running a while and would not restart until waiting a significant amount of time. Has anyone else seen this issue?.

Search this forum for your answer. There's plenty of discussion on that topic and several different possible causes.

Im assuming that you have looked for an error code? Also note that the oil level will shut down a genny if it detects low oil level. When the vehicle is climbing / descending steep hills, with a low oil level - it will trip the low Oil sensor and shut it down.

RK, review this thread (https://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f...ees-67947.html). I know its for a 5500 but alot of the same info is being discussed here as well, including the issues i've had with my generator, and I have the 4000 you have.

Regarding the error code, its pretty simple press the stop button on the generator panel 3 times in 5 seconds and it will start blinking. This is the first level , you must press the stop button one more time to get the second level. Count the blinks and you'll get the error code. More details on that can be found here,

Also, make sure your oil level is not too low or too high. Make sure its right where it should be. Lastly, make sure your fuel level is above the 1/4 tank mark. The generator will shutdown about the 1/4 tank mark to allow the RV to get to a fuel station without running completely out.
