sirius xm tuner install

Thinking of buying the sirius xm tuner for our Alante. Looking at the instructions looks like the antenna should be mounted outside on the roof. Don't believe the roof is metal and according to the instructions you shouldn't put it inside. Thoughts?

Many of the antennas supplied with the tuners do work best with a metal ground plane and may not give optimal reception. I installed a mirror-mount "Trucker's" antenna on my Seneca and it works well.

There also are marine versions specifically designed to work on a fiberglass boat, they have a built in ground plane for better performance. Might be an option to consider.

When I installed mine, I did what a lot of other Precept owners did. I ran the wire, under the dash, to the drivers side windshield post. I removed the cover, on the post & the pieces that hold up the headliner. There is a rectangular steel tube, above the headliner. I placed the magnetic antenna on top of that tube. Alantes & Precepts have fiberglass roofs that the signal goes right through. I haven't had any problems, in over 2 years.

Just a thought but you can use Xirius on your phone and play via Bluetooth to your Pioneer head with no investment and/or installation.

But only where you have good data coverage!
I try to stream some of the "extra" channels and it works about 1/2 of the places I travel. Then I just tune the regular satellite channels. Even some campground wifi's can't keep up.

I just ran my antenna to the front of the dash. Worked well except when driving north where the body of the coach shielded the signal from the satellite.

As it were I ended up dropping the service because I couldn't hear the radio when driving, even with those speakers at the top of the windshield in my Precept 35US. Very noisy at 60mph.

This is what I do, except that my radio has the apple car play, so I plug into the USB and use Waze and Sirius XM at the same time. I have the Sony head unit. Nice unit actually has independent volumes for each app running so you can set the levels where you want them and of course the music is muted when the GPS speaks. Plus it charges my phone while I drive.
