Question Turn Signal Mystery

I have a 2003 Avatar DP. If the lights are on the turn signals don't work. Flip the lever either direction and the dash turn signal lights both come on solid. If I turn off the lights using he light button the turn signals work normally. Related to installing LED bulbs perhaps?

Perhaps. Did this start right after the LED installation? Did they work right, at all, after you put them in? Best way to find out, is return the LEDs to the standard bulbs, and see if it corrects itself, then you'll know. I know certain turn signal LEDs need a diode to prevent hyper flashing.

I'll try that. I did not drive at night for several months after installing the LEDs so I am uncertain. Someone mentioned installing resistors in the turn signal circuits.

Yes, I misspoke with diode. LEDs don't have the resistance of a regular filament bulb, so the flasher won't work, or hyper flashes like a bulb is out. High tech instrument panels will give a message, or set a code.

Many turn signal flasher units depend on the current drawn by the bulbs. That's why, if a bulb blows, your remaining lights blink faster.

So if you install LED lights, which draw far less current... well you get the idea.

I believe there are electronic replacements for the older style thermal flashers, which would solve your problem.
