Where to stay near Chicago

I am doing a 5 week trip this fall from Park City, UT to Minneapolis - Chicago - Route 66 to Santa Monica and back to Park City. Having trouble finding a place to stay near Chicago for 3 nights to visit friends. Any suggestions? Problem is this will be over Labor Day weekend 9/2-9/5. We have a tow car and place to stay in the city but need a safe place to park my Alante for 3 nites. I don't mind paying camp fees or maybe Walmarts or?

I would recommend the Hollywood Casino Campground near Joliet (just west of Chicago). It is simple & clean - about 1 mile off of I-80. Plus there is a free shuttle to the casino if you want some entertainment.

If you want your RV intact I would not leave it anywhere near Chicago in a WalMart parking lot. Many do not allow parking depending on the city it's located in. Crime is always an issue. Perhaps an RV dealer would allow you to park it in their lot, maybe you will need an oil change or?

Good Luck

I bought my MH from Camping World and they have a facility near Chicago. I might contact them to see if I can leave it there. Hollywood Casino looks pretty good too. Thanks for the responses.

Camping world is located in a far NW Suburb, probably 60 miles or more from Chicago. Where in Chicago area are you going?

KOA has a campground in far NW Suburbs Huntley ? Don't remember exactly. I would try and RV dealer closer to Glenview see if you can work something out. Many will actually store RVs and have space available.

Good Luck.

In Summer, 2017 I spent a couple of nights at the McCormick Place truck marshaling yard in our 2016 Jayco Greyhawk.

I found out about it on this blog:

https://www.gonewiththewynns.com/dow...ago-rv-camping

It worked out great for me and my two kids (ages 7,8) while we were traveling back to Montana from Maine.

It may not be to your level of comfort, but I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Safe travels,
Doug

Chicago Stay

Thanks for all of your input, very helpful especially the Walmart and Camping World comments. I did more searching and found a County Forest Preserve site near Palatine, IL only 25-30 minutes from my destination. Nice gravel/wooded sites with electricity called Camp Reinberg. Anybody been there? I was able to reserve 3 nights over Labor Day weekend.

McCormick or Palatine

i was going to suggest McCormick Place downtown as well as its so great to have a place right downtown. But I grew up near Palatine so I can also say it's a nice, safe, convenient suburban place to stay as well. Either should work fine. And enjoy the greatest skyline of any city any where. Good luck.
