Talking Goodbye Girard, Hello Truma!

Although I have been an advocate for the Girard on demand water heater, it is a well known fact that even when working as it should, there are still a number of concessions/workarounds that one must learn to live with if you don't have ideal water pressure/flow and incoming water temperatures as well as dealing with the "cold blast" when trying to conserve water or turn it off/on to soap up or do the dishes. The Truma Aqua Go resolves pretty much every single one of those issues and so almost from day one, it has always been in the back of my mind that when and if the Girard dies, it will be replaced with a Truma Aqua-go Comfort.

Even though our Girard Gen 3 is still working just fine, my plans suddenly changed yesterday when an opportunity I couldn't turn down, suddenly appeared.

I ran across an article online about a new Truma Service Center that just opened in Lakeland, Florida and they were offering free installation for the first 50 units sold out of the new location. I called Truma and sure enough, they hadn't reached their 50 unit count yet, and the free installation was still available.

But immediately, the DW started throwing up roadblocks. It not only would cost a good portion of what we were saving to haul the Eagle TT up there and back, but the thought of breaking camp, hitching up, traveling, waiting, and getting back after dark were just a few of her "logical" arguments against doing it. I hate it when she makes sense!!!!!

But falling back on a couple of adages such as "Nothing worth having comes easy" and "It never hurts to ask", I thought what the heck, tossed the "Hail Mary" and called Truma back to see if they did on site installs. To my surprise they do, and for a mere $39.00 travel fee. Who does on site visits for a mere 39.00 these days??? TRUMA DOES!

So with the DW's blessing, I now have a factory tech scheduled to install a new Truma Aqua Go Comfort in our Eagle TT on our site next Wednesday the 10th. He also advised me that with their recommended 2-3 hour install time at 110.00/hr., that phone call just saved me almost 300.00!

A new Truma Aqua Go, the DW no longer has "logic" on her side, and I saved ~ 300.00, It's Christmas all over again!!!!

I think I have a $50 coupon that the guy in Lakeland gave us when we had the Comfort upgrade kit installed a couple months ago. If I can find it, I'll PM you with the details. I think it gets us both $50.

I’ve had my aquago comfort for 5 months now and it’s just like Home.
The girard sucked completely. Girard’s service was great but they’re product is so inferior compared to the German engineered truma. You’ll love this thing.

From the website it looks like that's the only service center here, for now.
I hope they decide to move West!

I’ve been watching Truma for a long time. If I wanted a tankless or needed one, Truma would be the one. Seems they have it figured out.

David, the tech in Florida, told me they were thinking of opening a center on the west coast. No idea of when.

I have been researching them for over a year now and I have no doubts it is head and shoulders above the Girard's for a number of reasons. Everything from self descaling via a "pill" to higher btu ratings, to a 1/4 of the flow requirements to keep the burner lit, to having the mixing tank to all but alleviate the cold water sandwich when turning hot on and off, I just couldn't turn down this chance to jump now vs. later.

They said this one is the first of many but no idea where they may open. I would suspect the first locations would be near high density camping areas such as Florida, the SW, etc.

Yep! He gave me a form to fill out to register the unit for me. Said he could give me a 2 year warranty instead of just one if he registered it. When I asked him about using the coupon, he said he would submit it for me as well. So all I can assume Mike is that you should be getting something in the mail at some point.

Also, he stated that he thought they had only done a little over 20 of the 50 free installs at this point, so if anyone else is thinking about a Truma and are in Florida, it might be worth your while to give them a call. I figure it saved me at least 300.00 and he did an absolutely PERFECT job on the install. I couldn't be more impressed with his work.

The costs for me were:

Truma AquaGo Comfort unit - 1233.00
Black XS Door (extra small) - 119.00
Travel Charge (on site install) - 39.99
Sub total - 1391.00
Tax (Florida - 7%) - 97.44
Grand Total out the door - 1489.43
Minus 50.00 Rebate Coupon from Mike - 1439.43

Thanks again Mike!!
