MORryde Safe-T-Rail Support Mod

When we first saw the Safe-T-Rail and door latch my wife and I knew we wanted them. The rail was a great improvement over the short rail we had on our 2018 28.5 RSTS. That said, my wife has some stability issues and the railings side to side movement worried her. So I dug through my scrap steel pile and started figuring out how to stabilize the lateral movement. I decided to make a support brace from 1/2 inch EMT secured to the rail and to the RV's plastic fenderwell. I attached photo that show what I built because it is too difficult to describe in words. Bottom line is one end of the EMT has a fitting that fits inside the rail. It slides up the rail and is held in place with the D clip Morryde provided to store the rail when traveling. At the other end I welded a 1/4-inch bolt to fit through a hole I drilled through the fender. It is secured with a threaded knob on the underside. I had some reservation about drilling the hole in the fender but it is hardly noticeable.

The support brace made the railing very secure, no movement in any direction. With the railing connection inside there is nothing that gets in the way of our handhold as we go up or down the stairs.

I suspect someone could make something similar from wood.

That's an excellent mod!!!!

There have been a lot of reviews on the Safe-T-Rail that complain about the side to side movement being an issue, and your mod solves that problem.

Not sure how it would work on an RV without a slide, but it's sure worth looking into.

It would work the same, little steeper angle but I doubt the difference in force would have a noticeable effect.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking as well.
