New Solution for Dimming LED's
I just noticed a product I've not seen before over in the Camping World store. Haven't looked for it anywhere else but since it's a generic "Diamond Group" product it will probably start to show up on other sources.
I think it's built to dim cabin LED's (which I'm thinking about on in my main living area) but it looks like it would work for the awning LED strips as well.

Cheaper to just replace the oem white strip with a white or a color strip with remote that allows dimming and multi color option. Did mine this summer when the oems died. Cost less than $20 and very easy to mount and wire up.Got them via Amazon.

I do like the OEM look of that, and the fact it should fit right inside the switch panel. Thanks for the heads up!

OEM look maybe but the only thing you see with my strip replacement is the original on/off switch in the control panel. The dimming and color selection are done with a thin small remote that fits in the tray on the out side of the control panel door. Bought a spare remote for $3 or $4 in case I lose the original.

You will have a problem with this switch if the ground coming back to the light is not a dedicated ground. Most rv circuits are grounded thru the frame and the wires on the switches are more or less a common frame mounted ground. If that's the case the dimmer switch won't work. You run into the same thing with most replacement led strips unless you splice the power back to the original strip wiring. Read reviews from the same switch on Amazon.

So your saying I would have to home run the ground back to the battery for this to work?

I got mine during the week. Haven't installed it yet. Was thinking of getting another for the awning lights. I want to order a new panel insert so I can re locate the controls and mount the dimmers side by side.

Agree. The LED light strips that showed up here a couple years ago are hard to beat. I like them on the awning roll to versus top side of camper.
I use them on my screened in patio in Florida condo too.

Doug

So just an update. This switch works well. I pulled the panel and temporarily connected it to the original switch leads. The dimmer reduces the voltage to 9. I'm going to use this switch for the interior lights and order another one for the awning lights.the alligator clip you see it the separate ground needed for it to work.

Gman,
Were you able to tap a ground in the switch panel or where?

No that was a direct ground to the frame. I had to put this project aside till this weekend to finish that part of it.

Try this much cheaper.. https://www.amazon.com/Triangle-Bulb...rds=led+dimmer
Amazon does have others as well for far less than what Camping World wants
