Quiet Box for Portable Generator

I'm starting to build a quiet box to put over my portable generator to make it less annoying. I'm curious as to how much space should be left between the generator and the inside of quiet box. I'd like to hear from anyone who has built one and to know what the clearance was between generator and inside of the box.

Thanks.

The enclosure has to allow adequate ventilation to cool the genny and supply air to the carbs. Exhaust has to be vented out of the box. The real question to me is what are you trying to quiet down. If it is a contractor type generator you are wasting your time. The noise might be muted a bit but will still be quite annoying to your neighbors.

Have you searched online and YouTube? IIRC, there were several different designs etc.

I am following a design I found on You Tube but they didn’t list the clearance required. I’m mounting an electric fan and vents to help circulate the air through the box. This is for tailgate use where my neighbors will also have noisy generators. The exhaust will go outside the box and connect to a Gen-Turi pipe venting above the RV.

Thanks for the suggestions.
