Temporary Battery Power In Winter

I store my trailer in a storage lot and don't have access to electricity. I like to mess with the trailer over the winter, but take my batteries out. What I've done is bought a 7-way jack and hooked it to a small deep cycle battery, which only weighs maybe 20lbs. at most. I can take that to the trailer and plug the trailer into this setup and I have lights and heat (propane is still attached). With this small battery I only get about 2 hours max. If I need all day power I can take one of the big (70lb) batteries instead, but those are rough on my back.

I have a similar setup. Mine does not use the 7pin wire harness. Unfortunately my TT is on winter vacation and cannot access the cable, to take a picture.

Basically I have a heavy duty cable (similar to what you show). I have ring terminals on each end. I use a 1 bolt and wing-nut to secure the OEM cable to my cable extension. The cable is long enough so I can place my spare deep cycle battery on the ground next to the tongue or I can leave it in bed of the truck.

Before we had a generator, I would bring the spare deep cycle battery on longer trips or if we thought we would need heat.

As a similar thought, I made a similar harness that had alligator clips that I could connect to my car battery. I used it mainly for simply a quick check of the RV when needed and when I was in my car, as I could simply use the truck's connection otherwise. Your setup is an excellent tip for sure. ~CA

I pull my battery before winter. But for simplicity, I just pull up to it and use jumper cables to connect to the ends of the battery wires in the battery box on the tongue. Once on vacation with a popup my battery toasted out completely. I used the jumper cables several nights in a row. Not a lot of heat used but my car battery stood up to it as a stopgap.
