Underbelly guards for blowouts.

I had a blowout which did some damage to the underbelly. I cut a piece of aluminum and fastened to the frame at both ends. Originally Jayco only fastened one end which as caught by the tire debris. It then bent and caused other damage.

Looks a lot like what the factory is doing now except with factory you get 10,000 random staples shot underneath there. Not all of them into anything solid also. I like the clean install of yours much better.

Nice job!

You may want to look into your shackles and wet bolts soon. Looking at your USA map in your signature you travel a lot and those bolts and nylon bushings wear out fast. Ask me how I know!

I am afraid of the damage that would occur during a tire separation.

There was lots of damage from the blow out. The aluminum that they had stapled was not attached at one end and the tire just pulled it back. I had to hammer it up just to be able to drive. The staples were stapled into insulation. It doesn't show but I also placed solid wood pieces between the metal frame and the flooring so I didn't have sharp screws floating on air. I don't know if/when I will get around to it but I thought of placing 4 steel bars across the opening to give the area more strength.

Am installing two new 4500 lb axles and springs in a few days. I replaced them already but mfg. sent me the wrong axles so I have 2 brand new 3000 lbs axles. They don't want them back.

Yup, my neighbor had a tire disintegrate and it went unnoticed until a passerby pointed it out to him. The well area was damaged to the point that there were some holes that a couple of fingers could easily fit thru. The steel belts act like a flail and do lots of damage.
I’ve had 2 dramatic tire failures and the TPMS alerted me almost immediately and neither caused any notable damage. The first failure was the whole tread separating from the tire in a single piece. TPMS started squealing and I glanced at the rear-view and saw the tread piece about a trailer length behind me.

You can take my TPMS from me when you pry the receiver from my cold, dead fingers.

Care to comment on what brand tire?
Only reason I ask is I've had near blow outs with several brand name st tt tires and finally switched to truck tires. Since switching troubles have disappeared.
I educated myself on tires and you'd be surprised on the many reasons for failures. One major one is speed rating, there are more.

I have had several tires over many years disintegrate on the road. My concern was the pieces taking out my dump valves not to far back from the tires. A cut down truck mud flap bolted to angle irons will hopefully save me in the future. Plus I now have Goodyear Endurance and am shopping for a TPMS system.

Paul, not sure if your question is directed to me, but . . .
Our tires were TowMax and the 2 failures were within the first year (purchased new) and not many miles. TM (aka BlowMax) were replaced with G’year G614’s (an LT Tire) and have been flawless for 7ish years and 35k miles. The G’year Endurance also gets very good reviews.
