Wine Rack Thoughts

I have a couple ideas for a small, less than six bottles, wine rack. I’m a little worried about setting the bottles on their sides. I’m thinking that bottles are usually shipped standing up. One of my hobbies is woodworking and plan on building it out of wood. I’m also hoping to use a cabinet above our couch.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

On their side will be fine. The wine keeps the cork (when they're real cork) wet, and expanded, so they don't leak, or let air in, to 'rust' the wine. We have about 40 bottles at home, all on their side, in racks.

I built two racks from dowel, and scrap railing stiles, to add more storage above the kitchen cabinet in the house, and for the cellar. I don't suggest that, as it was seriously labor intensive with a drill press, and Forstner bits. Have fun making yours! It always gives me a sense of accomplishment, when it's finished.

My worry is the bouncing would break a bottle.

My Pinnacle has a 5 bottle rack built in with the bottles laying flat. To calm my concerns of bouncing or sliding out of the rack, I installed weatherstripping along the bottom of each wooden strip. It provides just enough grip to keep the bottles in place.

Wine does not stay around ours long enough to worry about breaking on travel.

Or worry about them standing up and risk drying the cork out...

Here’s my wine rack and as you can see it’s adjustable height wise and if you wanted to you could cut off the last section in order to bring down the width.
It’s 7-5/8” deep by 20-7/8” wide by 4-3/4” high( 2 rows ) or ( 7-1/2” high )3 rows . Bought it on eBay a few years ago.

My wire bought unfinished 4 bottle wine racks that we painted and put in a cabinet in our Precept. I can post a photo when I get home from work.
