Coldest night?

This spring has been frustrating in Colorado - still getting below freezing in the high country. What is the lowest temperature have you camped without having any problems?

Camping in the cold

My wife and I camped in our Jayco 1006 tent trailer in the Sierras in California at about 7,000' in October of 2016 in 16°F. We had no issues. With the onboard furnace and electric blanket, we were comfy. I worried about a frozen water system, but apparently it was warm enough inside and not that cold for long enough to cause trouble with the trailer's water system. It did cause me to consider improving the insulation of the water system for the future. But I've not done anything about that issue yet.

If camping in such temps for longer, I would want to drain the water tank, and disconnect the water line if there were hookups.

Actually I camped full time in the southern Sierras in an old "canned ham" in as low as -6°F while building a home (near Kennedy Meadows) for a few weeks in '06. The adjacent lakes (3 small lakes on the property) froze over thick enough to walk on. And the trailer had a broken window with cardboard in it and no furnace.

Refrigerator water line froze at 10-12 degrees. So until I can figure a way to feel confident in weather proofing it...….

On FW tank and none use of RV and no heat, it still was working in the morning at -10C/ 23 F during the night. Only suction line is in the insulated underbelly, rest in the interior of the TT. Seems the differential between inside and outside of the TT is pretty good.

We've used our 2017, 26BH (with "Arctic Package") in temps that got to the mid to lower twenties at night. We didn't encounter any freezing of plumbing, and it was easy to maintain comfortable temperatures in the trailer.

I wouldn't want to go any colder with it though, as moisture management becomes an issue. We do what we can to reduce moisture by venting, but condensation is a problem. The windows are all single pane, and become heavily condensated.

Anywhere cushions and other items come in contact with outside walls, we get moisture. If spare towels and clothes stored in the cabinets above the queen bed come in contact with the outside wall, there's moisture. Ditto for any pillows or cushions that come in contact with the outside walls.

Because of the poor insulation, and the single pane windows, we've found the practical limit of sustained camping to be somewhere in the twenties.
