30 amp RV plug

I noticed on my last camping trip that one of the prongs on my 30 amp power cord had heated up; it was discolored with some melt on the plastic. What is a good replacement plug? Any tips on replacing? Do I need to cut a few inches off the cord?

Just cut it off right behind the plug and look at the wire. Should be a bright copper color. If it's a dark dull brownish color that's due to overheating so cut back until you get good wire.

This is a common problem because the female portion of the pedestal gets really loose, from everyone plugging and unplugging. You can get a loose connection, which produces that heat. Always check when you're plugging in that your plug feels tight and not loose. If it's only slightly melted, it might be OK. You can order replacement Camco plugs on Amazon.

Some people carry a 50 amp to 30 amp dogbone, to plug into the 50 amp outlet, which is usually in better condition, and not used as heavy.

About 2 years ago, I used my dremel and a polishing pad, and cleaned it. Worked like a champ.

I also have used this replacement several times over the years for making extensions, portable generator to house (power inlet boxes) & trailer. Like the quality & the handle makes it great for easy removal.

Thanks; I'll have to find one that will fit inside the 3" diameter electric port on the trailer.
