Generator problems

2016 Jayco North Point with built in 5500 generator. We were running the generator this morning with very little drawing power (1 12v light, radio, heater, refrigerator). All of a sudden the electrical heat and refrigerator both went off at the same time, and the generator was still running. We were not using the microwave at the time but it was powered on. It remained on when the heat and refrigerator went out. What would cause this? Brand new unit for us and first time owners. I checked the breakers and all were still in place. The refrigerator will still run on battery, but the switch to let it run off of battery will not switch to "utility" when generator is running, only shows "battery".

Did you check the breaker on the front of the generator? Also don't just look at the breakers turn them off and then back on to reset. They can trip and not move.
