My next project!
Last year while reading the Forest River forums, I read a post about a guy who installed a remote control devise for his electric awning. They bought a kit off eBay and every modder had a new project on the go. The next model up from my awning, the Eclipse has a remote kit you can buy from Carefree of Colorado. They also sell a Direct Response kit that automatically closes your awning for ours but no remote. I wanted a remote so I could use it to roll up the awning while spot washing the areas that needed cleaning. I am forever going back inside to push the button.
While in Harbour Freight the other day they had a remote for a winch on sale for 24 dollars. I bought it. I plan to journey rig it to use for my awning. I will cut the plug off and wire her up. The plug shows five pins but I've read that there is four wires. Plus antenna, good for 50 feet. I will install a power cut off switch while I'm at it so it doesn't unwind during travel. I'm surprised I haven't read where someone else has done this. The frequency it works on is just a little higher than the factory order one. I hope to start this in about a week from now. I'll let you know how it goes.
