I stumbled across this article today:
Why Does Storing a Car Battery on a Concrete Floor Drain It
Even though the article says car battery, the concept is the same for RV and deep cycle batteries, but this is the clearest explanation I've heard to date.
FWIW, I store mine on the work bench in the garage, with a solar battery charger connected and pointed at the window, probably barely a trickle charger. But whenever I check the battery, it always reads 100%, so it must be doing something. I keep it on the work bench because it's out of the way and I won't be tripping over it -- there's actually more room on the work bench than on the concrete floor!
Anyway, I thought it was an interesting read, and I learned something from it.
