Surge Guard Surge Protector "Popped"

I am not sure what happened, but our Surge Guard surge protector would not release from the 30A receptacle at the CG. I eventually eased it out to find that it had "popped," and the prongs on the plug were soddered inside the receptacle. We are not sure what may have caused this.

Any ideas? It may be time for a better EMS device. This one is the base model for 30A that Surge Guard makes. It is not an EMS, just a small portable 30A surge protector. I appreciate your thoughts and input.

Progressive Industries EMS-PT30X This would be my choice.

Corrosion on the conducting parts will cause high resistance which causes heat. Could be on the plug and/or socket
