E2 vs Equalizer WHD - Is it worth it?

I currently have a 1000/10000 E2 WHD for my Whitehawk (7500# GVWR) and have a chance to buy a used Equalizer (same weight rating). Is it worth it for the 4pt sway control? I could probably sell my E2 for about what I can pay for the Equalizer. One other factor is that eventually we will be buying a TT bunk house with GVWR not over 9000# so wondering if it would be best to buy an Equalizer a 1200/12000 then, buy and keep the used 1000/10000 or keep my E2?

As opinions will vary, Whatever you do.. will be the wrong decision! Wait...it might be the right one. If you are happy with the 1 you have I would hold out for the new TT and upgrade it then. That is just my opinion. Might put you in that new TT faster too!

If you can sell the E2 for the same cost or close to that of the Equalizer, I would do it. You'll have a better WDH for little to no $$. If you upgrade on TT, just the new bars would be needed and sell the lower weight ones.

According to the Equalizer website you can not just change out the bars:

12,000 lb. Spring Arm (pair)

SKU: 90-01-1299
Pair (2) of replacement spring arms for the 12,000 lb. model of the Equal-i-zerŪ hitch. These arms are only compatible with the 12,000 lb. hitch head.

I upgraded from an E2 to an Equilizer. I didn’t find the Equilizer substantially better than the E2 and the Equilizer is a very noisy hitch but it is a good hitch. I’d get the used Equilizer if you can get a good deal on it but I’m pretty sure you can’t use a 12k bar in a 10k trunion head.

Regarding getting just new bars...Here is an except from an email I got from Equalizer when I was asking questions a while back.

"In order to achieve the best sway control in each weight class we designed each head and arms to handle those weights"

If your current WDH is working for you and the current TT; continue to use it and upgrade to a new WDH when you get the new TT.

As far as is it worth it...IMO yes.

I use a 10K Equalizer with a 7500lb GVWR trailer. My tongue weight is 900lbs. If you are looking at a 9K trailer, get the 12K or 14K hitch.

As far as noise goes, my Equalizer is silent. I grease the hitch head points and use bracket jackets on the L brackets. I have found the E2 to be the noisy one, but I don't see why one wouldn't be able to use the bracket jackets for the Equalizer on the E2... The L brackets are the same shape.

I have the Equalizer 12K for my TT (9200 GVWR) and I love it. It does a great job and I have never had a “two hand white knuckle” experience in the nearly 10k miles I have towed this TT...
IMO, I would go with the new 12K once you purchase the new TT. I actually got mine purchased and installed as part of the TT deal...
