Jeep Toad

I have a 2021 Jeep 4 door JL........Want to tow flat down......I have a Roadmaster Sterling tow bar set up...(used it on 2 previous toads)
Question is.......who makes a replacement bumper with 3/4" D Rings that says its rated to tow?....liability thing!
Or is it better to leave the bumper stock and add a Separate Base plate?
What works for you?

Separate base plate. If you are talking pulling with connections just to the bumper, I would be nervous as to whether the entire thing would come off at some point. I guess the bumper is fastened to the frame BUT...

Hi John,
We have a 2018 Jeep wrangler jl 4 door. Before we bought the MH we
had a plow installed on it for our driveway. Then we got the MH and
decided to flat tow. I ordered the Roadmaster Nighthawk and base plate
kit. The base plate gets mounted in the same place as the plow frame tho.
So for the first season i took the frame off, installed baseplates, then
reversed when home. It got old quick !!!!
Started searching for a bumper i could tow with that would sit above the
plow frame. After many hours of searching the only company i could find
that sold a bumper you could legally tow with was "Rock Hard".
They have many options, i went with the 1 that most resembled the factory
bumper. It was about $1100, because i went with the wider version shipping
was $500.
Its been on almost 2 years, worth every penny.

Personally I would add a base plate.

Back when I was looking, there were several bumpers that had attachment points capable of towing, but VERY few that had the right bumper-to-frame connections. And this is the key. Granted, that's been nearly 3 years ago now, and there may be additional players in the market...

Most after-market bumpers attach to the thin sheet-metal bumper attachment points, which are NOT approved for towing, even if the bumper itself and its D-rings ARE technically capable.

So whatever you choose, you want to make sure you're attaching to the FRAME, and NOT the OEM bumper bracket attachment points. Attaching directly to the frame is generally a common point on base plates, and the less "stuff" between those connections, the better IMO.
