just bought a swift 184bh what are you towing yours with?

Hey guys just moved up from an antique apache camper to a jay flight swift 184bh slx. planned on using my 1996 4runner to tow with which does fine around tow but on the interstate i have it floored 90%of the time. 60 mph is all its got, so looks like i will be upgrading my tow vehicle. what does everyone else use for this size camper? looking at v8 4runners. what do you recommend.

I'm using a 2007 Toyota Tacoma Crew Cab long bed with a V6. It tows the 184BH pretty well. The best feature is that I get great gas mileage with it. I recently towed the TT 300 miles round trip. That included a fair mix of city and highway driving and several steep, uphill climbs. I filled the tank the night before we left and still had 1/8 tank when we got home.

If you have any thought of going to a larger camper in the near future, look at any of the 1/2 ton trucks. You will love the bed for hauling fire wood and bikes etc.

i have thought of the tundra but prices with vehicles that don't have 150k miles are still pretty high. i hate to leave the toyota camp ,i love my 96 4runner but it just wont get the job done if i plan to go very far from home.

anyone use an FJ cruiser? the tow rating is the same at #5000 but quite a bit more powerful than my tired 4runner.

I use a 2002 Grand Cherokee (4.7L V-8) with my 186rb. Tows fine over high mountain passes in Co. There is no replacement for displacement....

Tried out a 03 v8 4runner this weekend, did alot better than the 96. plenty of power left at interstate speeds. it did have a little front to rear bouncing going on. Is this a matter of tongue weight or soft coil springs? i believe the hitch weight od the trailer is 315 truck is rated for 600 tongue weight and tow rated at 7000. whats the best way to reduce this? plans on adding at least some sway control , is a weight distributing hitch needed for this combo. max trailer weight is 3500. trailer was empty by the way. i know a half ton truck would be ideal but i have to strike a balance between a daily driver and towing the camper 10 or 12 times a years. thought about land cruiser but gas mileage on the runner looks pretty reasonable for a daily driver towing it will still stink.

Weight distributing hitch will do wonders for this bounce if installed and set up right

Just picked up a new 184bh and my tow vehicle is a 2012 Tacoma. I picked the camper up this past Saturday and loaded it up and went straight to a camp site about 60 miles away. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with how well the Tacoma towed the camper. The truck squats a little more than I like but not real bad. I am however using a sway bar and the setup seemed to do well this weekend.

well not a 184BH but we have a 165BH and tow with out Envoy (I-6 4.2) It does the job but anything larger we would need to upgrade the TV to a V-8.
