Looking for New Tires
Well my 25 month old Good Year Marthrons made in the USA let go on my 5th wheel. Luckly I have an Air Pressure Monitoring system. I got off the interstate with 40 lbs in the tire. The tire had a nail in it but the Steel belt was coming out half way around the tire.
No more Goodyears !!!
I was looking at BFGoodridch TA's as I had on the other trailer. Stopped today at a tire store and a guy said look at Carlise they have a 12 ply tire but its a 85r rather than a 80r which is one inch taller. My axles are spacer at 33 inches C/C. the space between the old tires is 3 inches. I'm thinking we're good to go but don't know much about the Carlise Tires, but they are made in the USA.
OK what do you think ????

I would not put Carlise tires on my Trailer if you gave them to me FREE.. they are the very bottom of quality.

yogi154,
What make of TPMS do you have for your 5er?
As for tires, i tend to stick to the major brands, and Carlisle is not one of them.

OK Ed and Seann, how about recommending a tire brand to the OP since Carlisles have been ruled out?

Yep that's what I figured Well my choice was and still is BFG TA's I had them on our Cardinal. I just checked my Goodyear's made in China. When I was at Jayco's factory I looked at the tires Made in the USA. Well I guess I didn't get them.
Pressure Pro System rated the best on a couple other fourms. Their teck is the best too, as they take their time to answer your questions.

As was said previously, I stick with major brands and Carlisle isn't one of them. I personally like Good Year and will be replacing my factory Marathons with G614's next year. I like the good reports on the Michelin XPS Ribs, but they don't have a high enough weight rating for my 5'er so I can't use them.

My trailer came with Marathons on it (USA) and I have been very happy with them... and as long as I can get USA made ones I will stick with them....

I have the BFG Commercial T/A's 235R85/16 LRE on my 11600 lb 5er. Love em. Heard good things about the Goodyear G614's as well. Marathons are made in China. Saw a couple of folks with the highway tread Michelins and they were happy campers too. Michelins LTX are made in France. IMHO I would stay away from China tire products until there is a greater degree of quality control in the manufacturing process. I have not talked to anyone with Maxxis so no comment there except I would not use a trailer tire. Jayco used LT tires on the larger 5ers until 2003. I believe it was a testing/warranty issue that caused the switch.

They still have some USA Marathons, although I don't know how you can specifically order them. I have chinese marathons on my TT, and the US version on my boat. So far, no complaints from either.

The Marathons on my boat trailer were made in New Zealand (05). The 4 on my Jayco were made in China (08), and the spare was made in USA (09)! Good Year switched to China, then briefly back to the US and now back to China again on their ST trailer tire production.

My first choice is BFG's I thought all load rannges were the same. Nope you have to look at max load rating. The China Goodyears are 3460 lbs. where most others are 3040 lbs. I just had my trailer & truck weighted. They weigh each tire to know the loaded weight. My heavy tire was 3100 lbs over the rate of some of the Good tires. Looking at the Goodyear G614 Wow they cost. Well I think they are also made in China. Looks like more searching on the internet. Sent an e-mail out to Maxxis but no return.
Dropped the Designer off for an alignment check. I called Jayco Factory Tech she told me I could bring the trailer in in Feburary. WHAT I think that is unreasonable time line.
Well That's My Story & I'm stick-ining with it. Just Lov-in Retiirement !!

I just replaced the front two tires on my truck with Firestone's which are still made in the USA. Resonably priced but are load E range LT's.

Well they are rated for 65 mph but I was driving around 55 and 60. The flat is not the problem it is the tire beak down. I had Kenda tires on my Cardinal and Never used it untill I replaced the tires. Kendas were Super Junk !!!!

I wish Jayco had put 16" tires on our trailer. Not a lot of choices in heavy duty 15's.
I had posted earlier about the cracked sidewalls on the Michelin's on my truck. Only 4 years old and 37000 miles with deep cracks in all four tires. I guess I am a slow learner cause I bought four new Michelin's this summer. I sure hope they do better than the others.
