Towing A 2014 Ford Focus

To tow the Ford Focus all I have to do to prepare it is to set the gear in neutral and then disconnect the negative battery post. Although this is a simple thing to do, the post is far back on the battery and a pain to get at. The negative battery post is also attached to the firewall of the car and in plain sight. Is disconnecting that cable from the firewall the same as disconnecting the battery cable from the negative battery post?

No. It must be disconnected from the battery all together.
