Jay Feather power cord

When I go camping and need to use the 30 amp to 110 adapter. Do I lose any power by using the 110 Volt 3 prong adapter?

About 15 amps of capacity which limits what electrical items you can use at one time.

Definitely. Not cheap, but very beneficial.

I might add that the correct sized 15A extension cords aren't cheap either. I see way too many people using long runs, sometimes plugged together, of cheap 16 ga cords from the home centre.

For any length of run of 15A cord where you are likely to actually pull that much amperage (like your RV), you should be using a 12 ga cord set to reduce resistance and heat build up. But if you are going to spring for a good 12ga 15A cord, you might just as well get a proper 10ga 30A cord set instead for a few more bucks.

I carry a 30 amp RV extension cord, but have never used it.

I also carry a 12 gauge 15 amp extension with a 30 amp adapter to the trailer cord that I use to keep the trailer plugged into the house circuit during the summer. It keeps the battery charged, runs light-draw items, and I use it for a few minutes to check the A/C, but otherwise only light duty.

I installed a 15 amp receptacle on the outside of the trailer that connects to a dedicated GFI duplex receptacle. I use a short 14 gauge 15 amp cord to supply extra power dedicated to an electric heater or lighter items.

I have also used the 14 gauge cord with an adapter a couple of times when a full campground has allowed me to use a 15 amp tent site.

I carry and use 15>30, 50>30, and 30>15 adapters. The 50>30 is very useful for power posts with iffy or missing 30 amp receptacles.

Except when plugged into my house, I always check a power pedestal before use and use a surge protector while plugged in. The routine is check the power source, if good turn it off, plug in trailer, turn on power. Never plug or unplug the trailer while power is live.
