New Jayco Owner - Space above the Radio

Does anyone know the resaon for having what appears to be an empty space above the radio in our 2010 17c?

First of all - welcome to the forum! Glad you are here....If you have a moment, come on over to the new member area and introduce yourself.....I lived in North Canton as a child between 55th and 56 street if I remember right.

I am not remembering the exact layout on the 17c, but I can tell you there are sometimes voids in the cabinets where they install blanks. I have one above my microwave. My guess is they are too small to be useable or would just add cost for the small amount of storage. I have thought about doing some type of mod and use that space as a "secret" compartment.

It is the perfect size to install a subwoofer.

Yup, it's a free gift of underutilized storage space from Jayco! Check the mods section of the forum and see what I did with mine.

It's probably the same radio cabinet that is on our X23B. Mine's full 'o wires for the stereo/Tele. I had to replace the radio and got a chuckle looking at the rat nest behind it. It's probably usable storage if the wires are cleaned up and a shelf put in.

I put a dvd player in mine. It's not as pretty as "mcfarmall" but it works. I just posted in the mods section. I have pics in there of the area behind and above the stereo. It may give you an idea what you want to do with it.

I think it's just for wires. I plug in my ipod and stick it up there. But, I got a small tension rod and a brown valance and stuck it up there to make it look more decorative and it hides the wires. That was actually the first thing I did to our new camper!
