Anodized Aluminum Care

Calling All Metallurgists:

Apparently, some anodized aluminum does not require polish and/or wax.
I do not know about the anodized aluminum siding on our 2021 Jay Flight. Is a polish and/or wax safe for it? Is it necessary to protect it? What is the correct treatment for the aluminum siding that Jayco uses?

Thank You!

I have always washed and waxed just like a normal car. When black streaks happen, then I use other products.

Does your trailer have aluminum siding?

Most of what I read says, "Do not use any polishes. Anything abrasive removes the anodized coating which is basically a thin oxidized layer. Washing with soap or a mild cleaner is the only thing you should do."

Maybe , I should just use 100% wax and not a cleaner wax or polish.

The owner’s manual for our aluminum-sided JayFlight says to wax it “once or twice a year” but to avoid waxes “containing high-abrasive compounds.” I’ve used Meguiar’s RV cleaner/wax since Day 1 and have never had any problems. Looks as good as new, including the decals, which I carefully wax as well.
