Awning sun shade

Were wanting to install a sun shade on both awning of our 17 NP381 DLQS. Not sure if the covers need to be removed or not. First picture shows the roller slot seams to be blocked by the end covers. Last 5r the slots were open at the ends and we could slide the sun screen off and back on everyday. I have shopped and found a zipper sun screen with a 1' section that rolls into the awning. But the dear wife is concerned the section that rolls up might damage the awning.

Hi Folks
We have installed the Awning Shade with the Zipper .
It has been great and Rolls up with no issue.
We bought the 20 X 8 Ft. It goes all the way to the ground
and we stake it down as needed.
Good Luck

We use a Zip blocker with a 3' section and no damage or issues so you will be fine with a 1' section.

That looks like a Carefree of Colorado awning. I have looked at the same zipper screen as a solution cause mine is so high and I could not lower it enough to reach it from the ground.

On your picture if you operate the awning, at least on mine one end of the slot can be accessed.

We had to over extend ours to get our sunshade in the slot. It was a pain but we already have the sunshade so we made it work. I have never seen the zipper style but will look now.

They are pricey but very convenient. Look on Amazon.

I had the same problem with my accessory slot. Had to over extend my awning to install sunscreen. Have done that 3 or 4 Times now and decided enough was enough. Found a local source who cut one foot off of my screen and installed a zipper for me. Can’t wait to try it out next spring.

Dona and Don, just in case it is not clear, over extending the awning will position the slot on top which provides access to slide the sunscreen. With this style awning it is best performed with a sunscreen with a 1 or 2 foot zipper valence that will roll up with the awning.

You can also "under extend" just before the awning opens completely as the accessory slot becomes available when unrolling. You just have to feed the sunscreen in and hold it above the support arm. This actually works kinda nice as the support arm helps hold the screen up to align to the accessory slot when sliding in.

So a question. We get winds quite often in the 30-40mph range. Can the sunscreens hold up under that or do you have to roll everything up?
